Seven Must-Know Travel Tips!

As we officially enter the summer months, I’m excited for all my clients who are jaunting away to Europe. I’ve complied seven important tips, from booking flights to the benefits of packing cubes, that will help enhance relaxation and ensure your summer travel adventures go smoothly.

Be Flexible When Booking a Flight

When planning your travel itinerary, consider booking flights on less crowded days. Did you know that airports are the least crowded on Tuesdays? This will not only reduce your stress, but will also allow for a smoother journey. Consider purchasing flexible flights. These allow for changes or cancellations after the purchase has been made. By purchasing a flexible flight, also known as flexi flights or open tickets, travelers are able to change travel dates or even cancel last-minute for no fee or a smaller fee than with regular airline tickets.

Book Early!

To secure the best deals and availability, it’s important to book your accommodations and transportation well in advance. By planning ahead, you will have a wider range of options to choose from, which will minimize any last-minute disappointments.

Buy Travel Insurance

Travel insurance is an essential aspect of any trip, especially during the summer months when the risks of flight cancellations, delays or lost luggage may be higher. Additionally, medical coverage ensures you’re protected in case of illness or injury abroad, providing you with peace of mind throughout your adventures.

Pack Light

Efficient packing is key to hassle-free travel. Travelling with less luggage allows for greater flexibility and convenience during your adventures. I use packing cubes to keep articles of clothing together and stacked nicely in my luggage. I also love that my packing cubes come with two compartments, so I can keep my clean and dirty clothes separate.

Insider Tip: Don’t forget to leave room for any necessary medications, and never assume you will find what you need at your destination.

Download Offline Maps – or Grab an Old-Fashioned Paper Map

Ensure you have access to reliable navigation tools by downloading offline maps to your phone or carrying an old-fashioned paper map (my favorite!). Your preparation will help guide you while exploring your destination and finding your way, even without internet connection.

Be Respectful of Local Customs

Every country has its own unique customs and traditions. It’s essential to show respect for local culture by familiarizing yourself with their dress codes, eating habits and social norms before your trip. By showing cultural sensitivity, this not only will enhance your experience, but it will also assist in having positive interactions with locals.

Flight Cancellations: What to Do

Whether you are faced with a flight cancellation or trip disruption, it is important to know how to handle the situation effectively.

In either situation, pull up the airline’s app immediately. Most apps will allow you to rebook your flight. It is important to have your record locator (six character reservation code) to rebook quickly.

If it is cancelled at the airport, quickly get in line at the airlines service desk, check-in podium at the gate or service phone bank near your gate. The airline staff will have immediate access to alternative flight options that they can offer you.

If it is cancelled before leaving home, contact the airline and ask for alternative flight options that they can offer you as protection.

Did you know that airlines have offices in Canada, Mexico, the U.K. and more? Another tactic is to call the airline’s international numbers. Please note there will be a cost associated with an international call, but you may be able to get a live agent faster. Please remember the agents helping you did not cause the flight cancelation. Please be kind and patient with them.

Pro Tip: It is important to note that federal law entitles you to a full cash refund.

Until next time,
